The Spinning Jenny
The Spinning Jenny has a fascinating and varied past. Originally constructed as a grocery store, it has housed a feed and seed, roller skating rink, wrestling rink, heavy metal music room, Opry house, and is now, at last, a Leisure Center and Music Hall. Many locals have strong, affectionate memories of getting a drink at the soda fountain or bringing their children to the roller skating rink. It has been a Greer institution for almost 70 years.
Now under new management and with an upfit, 107 Cannon Street is ready for her next phase in life. Featuring Music, Dance, Theatre, Weddings, Meetings, Community Events, Festivals, and more, The Spinning Jenny is a vital part of the downtown Greer community.
Meet the Owners

Sarah Betancourt and Sharon Murry, two sisters from Colorado, never would have predicted that they’d move across the country and open a music hall & leisure center, but by 2017, that’s exactly what they did. The opportunity to develop their own business that uses the arts to bring people together inside such a unique downtown area was too good to pass up. When asked what they each bring to the table, Sharon, the blonde risk-taker with big dreams says, “smart ass” and Sarah, the brunette counter-balance of numbers on paper and a dose of “woah, woah, woah” answers, “passive aggressiveness,” with cheeky grins at each other. They describe the Spinning Jenny as half concerts, half community events like dancing, boxing, crafting, art, film shows, classes, and vintage clothing shopping or even welcoming in charities for fundraising events. Sarah & Sharon agree that they get the biggest sense of satisfaction from when individuals come up after an event and say, “you have no idea how much I needed this experience.” While there’s a wide variety of things happening at the Jenny, the common thread is that they have created a space for the community to come together to have a good time, experience the arts, and support one another.
More than once, The Spinning Jenny has won Best Upstate Music Venue with The Greenville Journal.
