Empanada Shack

With a typical empanada, you take four bites before you get to the chicken or beef, and by then it’s done and gone. Julio’s empanadas, on the other hand, are anything but typical. First, they’re like burgers compared to sliders: BIG. Second, they are made in a dozen varieties: Philly Cheesesteak, Steak and Shrimp, Cheeseburger, Shrimp, Mac-n-Cheese— the variety that you find here, you won’t find anywhere else.

What started as a vision 25 years ago, was made a reality through the unlikely means of the Covid-19 shutdown. Julio started cooking Latin American food for his neighbors, who then started placing regular orders, and then the opportunities just kept coming. He learned of the opportunity to be a vendor at the newly announced Cartwright Food Hall, and throughout the Food Hall construction, he gained experience and customers through Greer Station’s Covid-19-inspired Dine on Trade events. Julio will tell you that in the last 2 years, he’s learned that everything happens for a reason, and its taught him to look at life with renewed hope and appreciation. He cooks because he’s passionate about it, and seeing people smile when they take their first bite is his real paycheck.

Come visit him for breakfast, lunch, or dinner inside Cartwright Food Hall!
